Festival of the church is celebrated in 1st week of December in every year, and is dedicated to St. Mary. The church consists of 310 families, which is divided into family units.

St. Mary's Church Thalanji was founded in 1959.
The church is famous as a Mariyam Theertadana Kendram. The foundation stone for the church was laid by Fr. Jaison Puthenpurayil M S T Vicar on 8th September 1995.
The church was blessed by Mar Emmanuel Pothanamkuzhy, bishop of Mananthavady on 30th November 2000.
