The parish was established in 1955 A D.
The history of church starts from early years of 20th century, a community of Christian oil merchants settled in Palakkad town, where the place came to known as "ennakottil" and "chakkamthara".
On 29th April 1955,Pope Pius XII extended the boundary of the Thrissur Diocese.As a result Melarkode parish which had been under Coimbatore Diocese came under Thrissur Diocese.
On 3rd July 1955 Palakkad parish was declared.
A new church was built and consecrated on23rd August 1964.
On July 3rd 1973, parish was elevated to forane status.
The church was declared the Cathedral church of newly formed Palakkad Diocese on 20th June 1974.
A new church was built and consecrated on 10th December 1988.
