It is the headquarter of Shornur block and is located 49 kms west of district headquarters of Palakkad.

The St.Antony's Latin Church is one of the oldest Latin Catholic churches in Palakkad district as the parish is established in 1906 A D.
The foundation stone for current structure was laid on 21-9-1968 and was completed, blessed and consecrated on 18-1-1970 by Rt.Rev.Dr.A.M.Patroni S.J., Bishop of Calicut.
