Our lady of lourdes cathedral is one of the largest churches in Kerala. The Church is situated 100 meters away from East Fort Junction of the golden city Thrissur.Festival of lourde cathredal is an enlightment to the city. Which is held on November 2nd saturday and sunday.
The church consists of 43 family units, within this there are 1848 families.The cathredal is dedicated to Lady of Lourde. The most attractive factor of the Lourde Cathredal is its underground shrine.

History

Important historical events of our lady of Lourdes Metropolitan Cathedral starts from 1885 as a small church under latin discipline established in the name of our Lady of Lourdes along with a cemetery in the then outskirts of Trichur own. In 1887 appointment of the vigariate apostolic of trichur with MSGR.Adolphus Medlycott as the first vicar apostolic. In 1891 exchanged the syrian church constructed in 1875 for latins and the lourdes church to catholics and elevated it as cathedral of vicariate of thrissur. In 1896 elevation of mar John Menachery to the status of vicar apostolic.

In 1923 was the elevation of Thrissur as a diocese with mar Francis Vazhapilly as its first bishop of Thrissur. The present chappel infront of church was constructed in memory of 1900th death anniversary of Jesus Christ, which was built in 1933 and blessed in 1934. Blessing of the present chappel is done in 1952. In 1957 blessing of the newly constructed Cathredal by the bishop mar George Alapatt. Blessing and the dedication of the bell tower is in 1963.In 1998 the chappel contructed in the cathedral cemetery was blessed.In 2016 blessing and re -dedication of the renovated cathedral by cardinal Mar George Alencherry,jointly with archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath and Mar pastor Joseph Neelankavil on 8th may 2016
