The Church is in the name of Mother of God (St. Mary). However, the church is a pilgrim centre in the name of 'Christ the King'.
The church is located around 8 KM south west of Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station. It is around 2 KM south of Sankumukham beach.
People from all over Kerala and from other parts of country visit the church and pray to 'Christ the King'.
The church was reconstructed around year 2017. The church is majestic in look and contains good amount of art work inside the church.

The Madre De Deus Church (Mother of God Church) has a tradition of 500 years.
It is believed that the famous missionary, St. Francis Xavier,visited Vettukad somewhere in between 1543 and 1547 to evangelize the faithful of this region.
